Born in New York City, Dr Benjamin Schussler began his professional career as a police officer with the New York City Police Department (NYPD), serving for three years before pursuing his passion for medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University before earning his medical degree from the University of Sydney.
Dr Ben gained broad clinical experience working within the public hospital system across medical, surgical, and emergency departments. During this time, he recognised that General Practice was his true calling, believing that much of the illness, disability, and suffering seen in hospitals can be prevented through strong, ongoing relationships between patients and their General Practitioner.
After becoming a GP, Dr Ben spent several years working in Far North Queensland, providing healthcare to First Nations communities. He remains passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Australians.
At Suncoast Health, Dr Ben provides procedural services only and has a particular interest in skin cancer medicine and minor surgical procedures. His services include:
- Comprehensive skin cancer checks and assessments
- Skin cancer surgery and excisions
- Removal of skin lesions
- Mirena® insertion and removal
- Implanon® insertion and removal
- Other minor procedures as clinically appropriate
Dr Ben is available for procedural appointments on Fridays only at Suncoast Health.
